WILMINGTON, MA — At their meeting on Monday night, Wilmington Selectmen unanimously approved the request of Mahmed Ourdyl, owner of Mona’s Kitchen, to obtain a common victualer license for property located at 66U Concord Street.
Ourdyl, who has two decades of experience in the restaurant business, previously owned Peter’s Pizza and Roast Beef in town for nearly seven years. He also owned restaurants in Somerville and Saugus.
Mona’s Kitchen will be located at the former Subway location on Concord Street. Construction is slated to begin shortly, with a spring opening expected.
Ourdyl plans on serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The establishment will be open 6am to 9pm on weekdays and 6am to 2pm on weekends. The restaurant will specialize in Italian-style pizza and sandwiches.
Mona’s Kitchen is named after Ourdyl’s wife, Mona. It was Mona’s suggestion to return to Wilmington to open the new restaurant.
“We’ve always been happy in the town of Wilmington,” said Ourdyl. “Wilmington is my home. I spent more time here than where I lived.”
“Thank you for doing business here in Wilmington,” Selectmen Greg Bendel told Ourdyl.
“I look forward to stopping at the restaurant,” added Selectman Kevin Caira.
