WILMINGTON, MA — Maureen White Bonnell, Office Manager at Wilmington Pediatrics, passed away in a car crash while driving to work on Tuesday, November 21.
“Maureen was a member of our practice since its inception over twenty-five years ago,” wrote Medical Director Sandy Stephens in a statement. “She was our practice administrator and our friend. She kept our records, scheduled our staff, and paid our bills, but was also our confidante, our party organizer and our sympathetic ear. She advised budgetary decisions, and congratulated our personal, professional, and organizational successes… She was the heart and the soul of our Wilmington Pediatrics family.”
According to State Police, at approximately 6:40am on November 21, troopers from the Barracks in Andover responded to reports of a crash on Route 495 southbound, just prior to Route 93 in Andover. Upon arrival, Trooper Thomas Hollow discovered that a 2010 Honda CRV, driven by Bonnell (59, Haverhill), had struck a 2015 GMC Sierra pickup, from behind. The GMC was then pushed into a 2003 Toyota 4Runner, which was then pushed into a 2003 Chevrolet Impala, which was pushed into a 2012 Mazda 3.
Bonnell, the driver and sole occupant of the Honda CRV, was determined to be deceased at the scene, as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the GMC Sierra, a 57-year-old man from South Berwick, Maine suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Lawrence General Hospital. The driver of the Toyota 4Runner, a 51-year-old man from Newton, New Hampshire, the driver of the Chevrolet Impala, a 22-year-old man from North Andover, and the driver of the Mazda 3, a 54-year-old woman from Farmington, New Hampshire, were not injured.
Based on a preliminary investigation, state police believe that traffic was slow or at a near standstill prior to the crash.
The remaining facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by troopers assigned to the State Police Andover Barracks. Troop A Headquarters, State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), Andover Fire Department, Office of the State Medical Examiner, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) all assisted on scene.
