WILMINGTON, MA — According to a recent report in the Boston Business Journal, the aerospace and defense company Textron will be laying off 51 employees from its Wilmington location (201 & 205 Lowell Street) over the next two months due to the “realigning of internal resources.”
In a statement sent to the Boston Business Journal, Textron notes it is “reviewing possible opportunities to redeploy impacted employees to available opportunities elsewhere in the enterprise, and they will receive outplacement services to aid in their transition.”
The layoffs follow a previous round of cuts at the Wilmington plant that affected 200 employees last winter. As Wilmington Apple reported at the time, those layoffs were a direct result of the company’s decision to end the manufacturing and sale of its Sensor Fuzed Weapon product line, which included “cluster bombs.”
