WILMINGTON, MA — At Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen Meeting, Town Manager Jeff Hull announced that Textron Systems Corporation (201 & 205 Lowell Street) will soon be undergoing a significant downsizing.
Last month, Selectmen received a letter from the company’s Senior Vice President & General Manager, explaining that Textron decided to wind down the manufacturing and sale of its Sensor Fuzed Weapon product line, which includes “cluster bombs.”
The company promised to keep town officials informed on how the decision would affect its workforce.
This month, Selectmen received a letter from the company’s Director of Human Resources, announcing that approximately 200 Textron employees will be laid off from its Wilmington location. The reductions in force will begin on December 2 and conclude on March 31. The separations will be permanent and employees do not have a union or bumping rights.
