WILMINGTON, MA — On Saturday, September 23, 2017, at approximately 10:30 a.m. the Wilmington Police Department responded to a residence on Houghton Road for a report of a disturbance involving a woman armed with a rifle.
Upon arrival, officers learned a 67-year old-woman was alone inside the residence. She was walking around with a rifle, suffering from an apparent mental health issue.
Assistance was requested from the NEMLEC SWAT team.
The SWAT team and Negotiators were able to convince the woman to surrender peacefully and without injury.
She was transported via ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment.
At this time, no criminal charges are expected to be filed.
