OBITUARY: Richard F. Hawkes, 69

WILMINGTON, MA — Richard F. Hawkes (known as Hawkes to many), 69, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at Care One Nursing Home on Monday, September 18, 2017. Richard was born in Springfield, MA on August 26, 1948 and was the son of the late Richard and Rose Hawkes of W. Springfield, MA.

Richard attended AIC University in Springfield. He worked in the funeral industry for many years before beginning a long and successful career at Delta Airlines. He enjoyed cooking and had a small catering business for a while. He was a man rich in friendships. After an accident, he handled paralysis and blindness with courage and grace. Through it all he never lost his wit, love for Boston sports and appetite for news. His friends were his constant and loyal companions.

He is survived by his uncle Robert A. Hawkes of Brooklyn, MN and Springfield, MA; his cousins, Elaine Kulesa of Harwich, MA, Andrea Fortier of Agawam, MA, Maryann Kabarsky of Nashua, NH, Cathy Ioffredo of Melrose, MA, Laurie Andrews of Litchfield, NH and many devoted friends.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Thursday, September 28th for Visitation from 5:00-6:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 6:00 p.m. Private burial will be held at Springfield Street Cemetery in Feeding Hills, MA. In lieu of flowers, please give to the charity of your choice in Richard’s memory.
