WILMINGTON, MA — Save the date! At its July meeting, the Wilmington Board of Selectmen unanimously approved the request of Renee Marcou, Executive Director of Brady’s Foundation, Inc., to conduct a 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, August 27 in Wilmington.
The event will take place in memory of local loved ones who have been lost to addiction.
The proposed route, per Town Manager Jeff Hull, is the same as many of the other 5K’s in town — starting at the Town Common, traveling down Federal Street, circling back via Wildwood Street, and finishing back at the Town Common.
The Wilmington Police Department offered a positive recommendation. The event will not conflict with any other community event scheduled that day.
“I’m grateful you’re considering my request,” said Marcou. “I’ve been in Wilmington my whole life and this organization is based here in Wilmington.”
According to its Facebook page, Brady’s Foundation was created “to shine light on the significance of addiction awareness, to help the struggling recover, and to provide a safe space for families who are affected by addiction.” Proceeds from the race will help the organization carry out its mission.
The nonprofit organization was started in honor of Tim Brady, a lifelong Wilmington resident who lost his battle to addiction last year at the age of 28.
