10 Things You Need To Know In Wilmington Today (May 20, 2017)

WILMINGTON, MA — Here are TEN things you need to know in Wilmington for Saturday, May 20, 2017.

#1) According to the National Weather Service, it will be sunny in Wilmington, with a high near 68. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.

#2) Wilmington Public Schools will wrap up its 5th Annual Art Show from 10am to 2pm in the Wilmington Middle School Cafeteria. Selected artwork from all grade levels and all eight schools will be on display. Admission is free. Donations, however, will be accepted, with all proceeds benefiting the Joanne Benton Memorial Scholarship Fund. Students, parents and the general public are invited to this popular event. Light refreshments will be served.

#3) The Town of Wilmington is holding its annual Household Hazardous Waste Day from 9am to 2pm in the parking lot of the West Intermediate School (22 Carter Lane). The event is FREE for Wilmington residents. (There is a fee for disposal of tires.)  Proof of residency is required. View the event flyer for more information. #4) Core Fitness at Wilmington Dance Academy (335 Main Street) is holding a pilates fundraiser at 8:45am. Participants are asked for make a $10 donation. Cash or checks accepted. Checks can be payable to MHCGM. All proceeds from this special “Pilates For Mental Health” class will benefit The Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester. Contact the Academy at 978-253-4598 or info[at]wilmingtondanceacademy.com with any questions.

#5) Boston Roller Derby, a Boston-based, female-only roller derby league, returns to the Shriners Auditorium (99 Fordham Road) for a double-header TODAY.  Doors open at 4pm.  The action begins at 5pm with the Wicked Pissahs vs. the Cosmonaughties, followed by the Harbor Horrors vs. the Nutcrackers.  Tickets include admission to both games, plus entry into the Players’ After Party in the Fez Room at 9pm.

Tickets are $12 (advance) and $16 (at the door) for adults; $6 (advance) and $8 (at the door) for kids (6-17); and kids under 6 are free. There is a small fee for online purchases.   • 10:00 am (A) Girls JV Softball (Cambridge Public Schools) @ St. Peter’s Field
  • 10:00 am (A) Girls Varsity Softball (Cambridge Public Schools) @ St. Peter’s Field
  • 12:00 pm (H) Girls Varsity Lacrosse vs Matignon High School @ Wilmington High School
  • 1:30 pm (H) Girls JV Lacrosse vs Matignon High School @ Wilmington High

#8) Pacific Grove (211 Lowell Street) is hosting Karaoke with Winnell Entertainment at 8pm.

#9) The Friends of the Wilmington Memorial Library’s Book Store Next Door (183 Middlesex Avenue) is open from 10am to 4pm. All books are $2 or less!  Every penny of every sale benefits the Wilmington Memorial Library. Learn more HERE.
