WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington School Committee sent the following message to students and families this afternoon:
With great sadness, we share the news of Superintendent Joanne Benton passing. Mrs. Benton truly loved all the children of Wilmington and worked tirelessly to make sure each and every one received an excellent education. We will miss her guidance and leadership. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends.
In an email, Town Manager Jeff Hull added:
Joanne was truly an advocate for Wilmington kids and Wilmington as a community. There was no ‘us’ and ‘them’ with Joanne it was ‘we.’ What can ‘we’ do to better serve the residents of Wilmington? I feel privileged to have worked with her.
