  1. The deadline for applying for this job should be after Town Meeting. The people of Wilmington should have a say in whether or not they support raising taxes to fund this position. My personal belief is that the department needs scrutiny, oversight, and an audit. We need to know who is applying for benefits, if they are even a veteran, if they have been honorably discharged, and we need to know: why are some veterans being denied benefits when they are seriously struggling to make ends meet? We also need to know why another person is needed at this department when a second person has already been hired. I hardy ever see more than 2 cars in the parking lot of the Veteran’s Department on Shawsheen ave. I have a hard time believing that this position is needed. I also question if funds will be taken from some other needy veteran that truly needs help.
