Shawsheen Tech Students Tour Pace Industries During National Manufacturing Week

BILLERICA, MA — Students from the Machine Technology program at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School recently visited Pace Industries, a manufacturer located in North Billerica, in recognition of National Manufacturing Week. Pace hosted the Shawsheen students and instructors to an informative session which included several speakers and a tour of their state-of-the-art facility.  The students left with safety glasses and hard hats, all compliments of Pace Industries.

Pace Industries Cambridge Division excels in serving specialty markets by expertly producing difficult die castings and providing exemplary project management and engineering support. Taking it a step further, Cambridge’s value added services includes in-house product assembly, machining and finishing to create a total solution. This division is also ideally positioned to serve design houses that assist innovative customers and start-ups in the medical, aerospace, instrumentation and defense industries.

Bill Donovan, Bob D’Ortona, Meghan Foley and several additional Pace representatives provided demonstrations of the latest technology in die casting technology.  These presentations included some sample parts that Pace manufactures for Harley Davidson motorcycles, drones, military defense, and airplanes.  These parts captured the student’s attention and stimulated an engaging question and answer session.

Larry Retelle, an instructor in the Machine Technology program, highlighted the benefits of this year’s tour. Retelle mentioned that “Pace representatives talked with the students about the requirements needed to be successful in the modern Machine Technology industry.  They also spoke about all the great opportunities available in various professional occupations in this fascinating industry.  This was a great learning experience for our Machine Technology students”.
