LIBRARY LINEUP: Edible Books Contest, Device Drop-In Sessions

WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a list of FREE upcoming programs for adults, teens and kids at the Wilmington Memorial Library.

Registration begins 30 days prior to the event. Please register online using our Calendar of Events at http://www.wilmlibrary.org or by calling (978) 694-2099 (for Adult) or (978) 694-2098 (for Children/Teen). Adult Programs:

Edible Books Contest
Saturday, March 5
The Wilmington Memorial Library is hosting its 3rd annual “Edible Book” contest. All ages may participate in the contest (family entries encouraged) by creating something edible that is book related. Entry forms available at the library and on the library’s website. Check out Edible Books at Google Images for inspiration! Entries will be on display Saturday, March 5 from 11 am to 4:15 pm.

Writing Group *RR
Saturday, March 5, 9:15 am-11:15 am
If you love to write and seek input and accountability, then join our writing group. Please bring up to five pages of written work to the meeting. Open to all genres and levels. Led by local writing enthusiast, Barbara Alevras.

Adult Coloring Group
Monday, March 7, 7 pm
Join in on the latest craze with our Adult Coloring Group. The group meets the first Monday of the month. No need to register, just drop in. Bring your own coloring books and pencils, or use ours.

Wilmington Library Website—Hidden Gems *RR
Tuesday, March 8, 2:30 pm and Wednesday, March 9, 7 pm
The library is more than the physical building. It offers a plethora of online resources that you can use even when the building is closed. Come join technology librarian, Brad McKenna, to see some of the databases and other hidden gems you can access on wilmlibrary.org.

Tuesday Night Craft – Hand Lettering 101 (cost $5, limit 12)
Tuesday, March 8, 7 pm
Learn the craft of hand lettering! This spring, we’ll focus on the art of drawing letters using different mediums and styles. Each class will build on techniques but can also standalone so feel free to just take one class or the whole series! We’ll practice cheater calligraphy, brush lettering, and hand lettering before learning how to hand letter our own chalkboard art.

Skillshare: The Perfect Pie Crust
Thursday, March 10, 7 pm
Wilmington resident and expert pie maker, Scott Crispin, will demonstrate how to make the perfect pie crust. Scott will bring a few of his famous pies to sample as well to serve as inspiration to make your own for March 14 (Pi Day).

Domestic Affairs (cost $20, limit 30)
Mondays: March 21, March 28, April 4, and April 11, 7 pm
Register at the main desk
Spirited discussions of some of the key domestic issues of our time will occur over the four sessions: drug policy, gun control, unions, and criminal justice and police practices. Moderator Keith West will prepare background information to read beforehand. All opinions are welcome. Come to learn, debate, and decide.

Drop in for a fun playgroup led by the CTI Family Resource Network. Ages 2-5

Developmental Milestones *RR
Monday, March 7, 6:30-8pm
Parents and caregivers will gain an understanding of developmental milestones and what is age appropriate in areas of play and behavior. We will provide resources and have an open dialog at the end for questions and comments. This class will be taught by Jensine Rich and Sarah Martorano, Developmental Specialists, Thom Mystic Valley Early Intervention.

Art Adventures: Paul Cezanne: Still Life *RR
Tuesday, March 8, 3:45 pm
Create your own still life masterpiece in the style of artist Paul Cezanne. We’ll explore different forms of media and techniques to make one-of-a-kind artwork for you to take home. Grades 1-3

Read to Zoey *RR
Thursday, March 10, 4-5 pm
Read to Zoey, the listening Labrador. Zoey is a great listener who loves to have kids of all ages read to her and improve their reading skills. Zoey has been certified as a therapy dog by the Pets & People Foundation. Please call 978-694-2098 to sign up for a 15-minute session.

Drop-In Storytime
Friday, March 11, 10 am
Drop in for stories, songs, rhymes and a fun craft! Space is limited, tickets will be distributed on first-come, first served basis. Ages: 2-5 and one or more adults.

Baby Times
Saturday, March 12, 9:30 am
Infants through 24 months
This program of songs, rhymes, games and picture books is for babies under the age of two years and their caregivers.

Dads and Donuts
Saturday, March 12, 10:30 am
Dads and their kids ages 2 and up are invited to drop in for stories, songs, rhymes and more. Moms, grandparents and other caregivers are welcome, too! Ages: 2-5 and one or more adults.

Library News:

Food for Fines in March
In lieu of fines, the library will accept on-perishable items for the Wilmington Food Pantry as payment during the month of March. In support of this effort, we ask that the items brought be comparable in cost to the fines owed. For a list of items needed by the Food Pantry, check the Community Fund website at http://www.commfund.org/food-pantry.html.

Device Drop-Ins
Wednesdays 2pm-3pm
The library is now offering device help on Wednesdays between 2 pm and 3 pm. If you need help with your iPad, smartphone, Kindle, or other device, stop by the library and Technology Librarian, Brad McKenna, will be on hand to help you resolve those pesky problems.
