QUESTION OF THE DAY: How’d It Go At Town Beach This Summer? Want Any Rules Changed?

The Wilmington Recreation Department made some drastic changes to Town Beach rules prior to the 2014 summer season, including closing Baby Beach; raising the daily rate for non-residents from $5 to $10; banning dogs from the beach from May 1 to October 1; implementing a “carry in, carry out” policy for litter; banning barbecues or cooking on or near the beach; and prohibiting parking on portions of Grove Avenue, Burnap Street, and Pond Street. (Read all the rules HERE.)

Wilmington Town Beach recently wrapped up its 2015 summer season on Sunday, August 16. This was the second summer with the “new” rules in effect.

Here’s Wilmington Apple’s Question of the Day for August 30: For town beach-goers, how did the 2015 summer season go? Do the “new” rules continue to work well?  Would you propose any changes?

  1. The changes at the lake have solved most problems except for one. Senior citizens from neighboring towns have lost their ability to meet with their senior Wilmington friends. This has negatively impacted their entire summer social life.
Almost all venues allow seniors free or
    reduced admission to their
establishments. I would strongly recommend that Wilmington allow
Seniors to purchase an individual seasons pass at the former pass rate. It
    is not the seniors who
caused the problems at the lake but
they are the people being punished. It
    simply is not right.

  2. Non residence from surrounding towns should be able to purchase beach passes. The fee should be reduced to $5.00 per day for non residence without passes. Children 12 and under should not be charged to use the beach.
