LETTER TO THE EDITOR: The 44th Annual Easter Egg Hunt Was A Collaborative Success

Dear Editor,

On Saturday, April 4, the Wilmington Recreation Department sponsored the 44th Annual Easter Egg Hunt for Wilmington children ages 6 and under.  Snow cover and melting snow prevented us from holding the event on the Town Common as originally planned.  Instead, volunteers and Recreation staff blanketed the floor of the Middle School Cafeteria with candy-filled eggs.  When the signal sounded, eager children rushed to fill their baskets.

The success of an event of this size requires the support of many residents and organizations within town.  Special thanks to Dunkin Donuts at 195 Main Street, Dunkin Donuts at 321 Main Street, Kiwanis Club, Market Basket, Re/Max Encore, the Aleppo Shriners, the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks, the Wilmington Community Fund and the Wilmington Sons of Italy.  The Wilmington Police Department provided police officers to assure the safe access to the event.

We would also like to thank the dedicated volunteers who filled over 7,000 eggs with candy, and the volunteers that came the day of the event to scatter the eggs for eager young children to collect.  We extend heartfelt thanks to the Easter Bunny who came all the way to Wilmington to welcome children and pose for photos.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this event a memorable one.

Sincerely yours,

Deborah Cipriani

Recreation Director
