WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington’s Relay For Life is sponsoring a free dinner social event for cancer survivors and caregivers on April 27th at Villanova Hall in Wilmington from 6:30pm to 8pm. Food will be provided by Tremezzo, the exciting new Italian fusion restaurant in Wilmington. Bobby G will provide entertainment.
Tremezzo owners James Martin and Rick Lowe recently opened their new restaurant at 2 Lowell St (the former Focaccia location). They bring a wealth of experience to the Tremezzo operation, and they have already become very active in community events. A repeat supporter of Relay for Life himself, Bobby Gauvreau is a seasoned entertainer with an amazing 3-octave range. His talents have taken him from local appearances in the Boston area to across the country including Las Vegas.
This is the third year Wilmington’s Relay is holding this event. It doesn’t matter if people are still in treatment or are years past that special 5-year survival mark, they are all welcomed.
Donna Laquidara is a 12-year cancer survivor who attended the social for the first time last year. Speaking of her experience, she says, “It is one thing to be told there are a “number” of survivors, but to see a large group of survivors in one spot, I believe, is a more powerful statement.”
She will attend again this year and bring two family members who also survived cancer. “I think the more that participate, the more hope there is for others facing the battle,” Laquidara explains. “It allows you to realize there are others that have walked in your shoes; you were not the only one to hear you have cancer.”
While enjoying good food and entertainment, attendees can also learn more about Relay for Life and the free services available from the American Cancer Society to support patients and their families.
