OBITUARY: Joseph G. Meehan, 72

Below is an obituary from Remick & Gendron Funeral Home:

HAMPTON, NH — Joseph G. Meehan, 72, of Hampton, NH, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born on October 2, 1953, to Walter and Sarah Meehan, Joseph grew up in Wilmington, Massachusetts, where he experienced the kind of romance people write movies about: he looked across the street, fell in love at first sight with his neighbor, Rosalie, and never looked back. Together, Joseph and Rosalie embarked on a remarkable 54-year marriage, laying down deep roots and creating a beautiful life for their family in Hampton.

Joseph was a legend of hard work and quiet capability. For 41 years, he was a proud member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Local 3. A man of relentless drive, he spent decades restoring high-rises and some of the most prestigious buildings in Boston by day, and running the front office of his business, the Nautical Motel on Hampton Beach, by night. If something was broken, Joe fixed it; if a project seemed impossible, Joe solved it. He was the ultimate master craftsman and always the first person family and friends called when they needed a strong set of hands or a wise mind to tackle a challenge. Deeply faithful and community-minded, he was also a devoted, long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus.

In his well-earned retirement, Joseph mastered the art of the good life. His absolute happiest days were spent at camp—reeling in trophy bass, captaining the boat for night rides, taking on tractor projects, and soaking in sunsets. He looked forward to summers spent on Prince Edward Island in his blue house on the “Line Road”. Above all, Joseph lived for his family. He was the chief planner of unforgettable family trips and a steadfast anchor through every milestone in his grandchildren’s lives. His loyalty was boundless, his presence was larger than life, and his legacy will echo for generations.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Rosalie; his children, Betty Anne Binette and her husband John, Joseph Meehan II and his wife Sue, Kimberly Sullivan, and Siobhan Coellner; his sisters, Sarah D’Agusta, Sheila Esposito, and Joanne Norton; his aunt Beatrice Meehan; and the true pride of his life, his grandchildren: Sebastian Meehan, Kyle Sullivan, Olivia Binette, Penelope Coellner, Connor Binette, Piper Coellner, Carter Sullivan, Avery Meehan, and Laney Meehan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Sarah Meehan; his brother, Walter Meehan; and his son-in-law and dear friend, Seth Coellner.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on September 17,2026, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish, 289 Lafayette Rd., Hampton, NH.
