WILMINGTON, MA — Barbara Ellen Ungaro (O’Brien)- of Wilmington formerly of Everett, died peacefully on August 27, 2026, at the age of 75 surrounded by her loving family.
Barbara was the beloved wife of Ferdinand “Fred” Ungaro. Together they shared 42 years of marriage.
Barbara was a proud and devoted mother of John Ungaro of Pasadena, CA and Christine Ungaro of Wilmington.
Born in Everett at Whidden Memorial Hospital on June 2, 1951; she was the daughter of the late James “Jim” F. O’Brien and Margaret “Patsy” O’Brien (Corcoran). Barbara was raised in Everett where she graduated from Everett High School as part of the class of 1969 and the Whidden Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1972.
Barbara was the sister of Eileen McGlinchey (O’Brien) and her husband Rick McGlinchey, and the late James “Jimmy” O’Brien. She was the aunt to Erin McGlinchey, Ricky McGlinchey, Andrew McGlinchey and his wife Shayla. Barbara was the sister-in-law of the late Anna Marshall (Ungaro), the late Ralph Ungaro and his late wife Marilyn Ungaro, and the late John Ungaro and his wife Irene Ungaro.
Barbara was fortunate to have found her calling in healthcare early on in life. She was a dedicated nurse at the Whidden Memorial Hospital, and then a nurse manager at Whidden Memorial Hospital, Somerville Hospital, and Kindred Healthcare for a total of 41 years. Her compassion, dedication, and kindness touched the lives of countless patients.
In retirement Barbara enjoyed traveling with her husband, having lunch with friends, shopping, and spending time at the Wilmington Senior Center. Barbara loved to spend time with her children and created countless memories for them.
Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Wednesday, September 2nd from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A Graveside Service for Barbara will take place on Thursday, September 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA (please use last entrance off Wildwood Street).
