WILMINGTON, MA — Barbara J. Forrestall (Leonard), a long-time Wilmington resident, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, at the age of 89.

Barbara was born and raised in Medford, MA, on October 26, 1936; she was the dear daughter of the late Francis and Barbara (Porter) Leonard. Barbara went on to pursue her education in teaching from Boston University.

Barbara lived a full and meaningful life marked by dedication, creativity, and love. She was a devoted elementary school teacher for the City of Melrose for many years before her retirement. Barbara was admired and respected by her students and colleagues alike. Her passion for education and her kindness in the classroom left a lasting impact on many young lives.

Barbara had many talents, she was an award-winning quilter, known for her beautiful craftsmanship, patience, and artistic eye. Each quilt she created was made with care and love, becoming treasured keepsakes for family and friends.

Barbara found great joy in the outdoors as an avid gardener, nurturing flowers and plants with the same gentle care she gave to those around her. Her garden was a reflection of her spirit—warm, vibrant, and full of life.

Above all, Barbara’s greatest joy was her family; she was a devoted wife and mother, and she treasured her role as grandmother. She created a warm and welcoming home filled with love and laughter; she looked forward to every moment spent with her family creating many lasting memories. She looked forward to family holidays, vacations, and celebrating special occasions with her children and grandchildren and beamed with pride as she spoke of their many accomplishments.

Barbara’s life was filled with purpose, creativity, and deep love. Though her absence will be profoundly felt, her legacy lives on through her family, her students, and the beauty she created in the world around her.

Barbara is predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard Forrestall, with whom she shared many cherished years. She leaves behind her daughters, Paula Brawn and her husband Kenny, Michelle Lee, and Kelly Doucette and her husband Thomas, who will forever carry her love and memory in their hearts. She was the step-mother to William Forrestall and his wife Kim, Linda Trott and her husband Michael, and Robert Forrestall and his wife Linda. Barbara was the cherished grandmother to her 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She is predeceased by her siblings Carole, Robert, Thomas, and Donna. Barbara is further survived by her nieces, nephews, and friends.
