WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee proudly announces the unveiling of a commemorative plaque honoring Jack Cushing, whose extraordinary lifetime of service to Wilmington athletics inspired the naming of the Wilmington High School Athletic Hall of Fame Wall in his honor.
The dedication ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 11am at Wilmington High School (159 Church Street).
The public is warmly invited to attend as friends, family, former athletes, coaches, students, and members of the Wilmington community gather to celebrate a man whose dedication has helped shape the athletic history of Wilmington for more than half a century.
Earlier this year, Wilmington Town Meeting unanimously approved dedicating the Athletic Hall of Fame Wall in honor of Jack Cushing, recognizing a lifetime of selfless volunteer service and leadership within the Wilmington athletic community.
Jack’s contributions extend far beyond the Hall of Fame itself. Throughout the years, he has devoted countless hours to Wilmington Little League, youth sports, high school athletics, community organizations, and numerous civic endeavors. His commitment has never been about recognition, but rather about creating opportunities for young people, preserving Wilmington’s proud athletic traditions, and ensuring that the accomplishments of athletes, coaches, and teams are remembered for generations to come.
As one of the founding forces behind the Wilmington High School Athletic Hall of Fame, Jack’s vision, leadership, and meticulous attention to preserving the school’s athletic history have been instrumental in making the Hall of Fame what it is today. His tireless research, organizational skills, and unwavering commitment have ensured that the stories of Wilmington’s greatest athletes and coaches will continue to inspire future generations.
The commemorative plaque, permanently displayed alongside the Hall of Fame Wall, serves as a lasting tribute to a man whose character reflects the very values that athletics strive to teach—integrity, humility, dedication, perseverance, and service to others.
Those who have worked alongside Jack often describe him as someone who quietly leads by example. His willingness to help, his remarkable attention to detail, and his genuine love for Wilmington have earned him the admiration and respect of generations of athletes, coaches, volunteers, and friends. The naming of the Hall of Fame Wall is a fitting recognition of a lifetime spent giving back to the community he loves.
The Wilmington High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee believes this dedication is about far more than honoring one individual. It is an opportunity for the community to celebrate the countless volunteers whose quiet efforts make Wilmington athletics special, while recognizing Jack Cushing as one of the finest examples of that tradition.
Following a brief dedication ceremony, guests will be invited to view the newly unveiled plaque and the Hall of Fame display.
Everyone whose life has been touched by Jack’s friendship, leadership, and unwavering commitment to Wilmington athletics is encouraged to attend this special celebration.
