WILMINGTON, MA — It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bruce Hill, of North Andover, MA, formerly of Wilmington, MA, who left this world on July 20, 2026, at the age of 72.
Bruce treasured his family above all else; he was a devoted, loving father to his daughter Sarah Jean Hill, who was his absolute pride and joy and whose love brought him endless happiness, as well as to Anthony VanAsselberg and Christopher VanAsselberg, both of whom he loved as his own. He was a caring father, a grandfather to two beautiful grandkids, a loyal friend, and the kind of man who could always be counted on. His kindness, sense of humor, generosity, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Bruce was born in Lowell, MA, on May 11, 1954; he was the cherished son of the late William A. Hill, Jr. “Willy” and Jean (MacKinnon) Hill. Bruce was raised and educated in Wilmington and a graduate of Wilmington High School where he made many wonderful friends.
Bruce dedicated 44 years of his life to the railroad, where he was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and unwavering commitment. He took great pride in his career and the friendships he built along the way.
Outside of work, he found joy in the simple things that made life meaningful. He was a devoted Boston Red Sox fan who never missed the opportunity to cheer on his team. He loved spending time on the golf course, where he enjoyed both the game and the camaraderie it brought. His faithful dog, Bruin, held a special place in his heart and was a constant companion.
He will be remembered not only for the life he lived but for the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the countless memories he created with family and friends. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Jean Hill of North Andover, MA , Anthony VanAsselberg and his wife Monica of Merrimack, NH, and Christopher VanAsselberg and his wife Desiree of Pepperell , MA; his grandkids, Natalie and Timothy, who meant the world to him. He is also survived by his extended family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willy and Jean Hill.
Family and friends are welcome to gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Saturday, August 1st from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon followed by a Graveside Service at 12:15 p.m. in the Wildwood Cemetery, 233 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Bruce’s memory be made to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844 or that those who knew him honor his memory by enjoying a day on the golf course, cheering on the Red Sox, or simply spending time with the people and pets they love.
