WILMINGTON, MA — Jean M. Broderick (Aceto), a devoted longtime resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at her home after a courageous three-year battle with Stage IV cancer. She was 70 years old.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on January 19, 1956, Jean was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Mabel (Freni) Aceto. She was raised in Cambridge, where she attended Cambridge Public Schools and graduated proudly from Cambridge High School. During those years, Jean formed many lifelong friendships that she treasured throughout her life.
Jean enjoyed a long and respected career with the United States Postal Service. She worked in several post offices throughout her career, steadily advancing through the ranks through her dedication, professionalism, and strong work ethic. She ultimately served as the Lead Sales and Service Clerk at the Watertown Post Office, where she became known for her warm personality, exceptional customer service, and unwavering commitment. Jean was deeply respected and admired by both her colleagues and the customers she served.
Family was the center of Jean’s world. She was the beloved wife of her sweetheart and best friend, Raymond Broderick, with whom she built a beautiful life in Wilmington. Together they created a warm and welcoming home that became a gathering place for family and friends. Jean was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an adoring “Nonni” whose greatest joy came from spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Jean had a gift for making every occasion special. An amazing cook and the ultimate hostess, she loved bringing family together around her table, filling her home with love, laughter, and lasting memories. She took great pride in keeping a beautiful, organized home and found happiness tending to her flower gardens and growing vegetables in her yard. Whether celebrating holidays, birthdays, or simply enjoying one another’s company, Jean cherished every moment spent with those she loved.
A woman of deep faith, Jean was an active communicant of St. Dorothy’s Church in Wilmington. She generously volunteered her time with the Ladies Sodality and found great joy singing in the church choir, sharing both her faith and her love of music with her parish community.
Jean and Ray shared a love of travel, especially their annual vacations to Ogunquit, Maine. She loved relaxing on the beach, soaking up the sunshine, and walking the scenic Marginal Way, a place that always brought her peace and happiness.
Jean was an enthusiastic Boston sports fan who enjoyed attending Bruins, Celtics, and Patriots games, but her heart always belonged to the Boston Red Sox. She delighted in watching her beloved Red Sox win multiple World Series championships during her lifetime.
Known for her vibrant personality, Jean loved singing and dancing, and there was always music filling her home. She had a wonderful sense of style, adored her wide-brimmed hats, and was truly a fashionista. Above all, Jean will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the genuine way she made everyone feel welcomed, appreciated, and loved. Her resilience, grace, and strength throughout her illness were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Jean’s life was defined by love, faith, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. Her warmth, generous spirit, infectious smile, and remarkable ability to make everyone feel special will forever be remembered. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she shared and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Jean was the beloved wife of Raymond Broderick; devoted mother of Philip Gallant and his longtime partner, Kimberly Harmon, of Woburn, Jeffrey Gallant and his partner, Melissa Hills, of Woburn, Christine Meack and her husband, Arthur, of Taunton, and Jacqueline Broderick of Woburn. She was the loving “Nonni” of Zackary, Makayla, Vincent, Gianna, Aubree, and Rylee. Jean was the dear sister of Helen Cirillo and her late husband, Vincent James, of Revere, the late Mary Aceto of Taunton, Joseph Aceto and his wife, Cheryl, of Polk City, Florida, David Aceto of Townsend, and Michelle Morales of Brockton. She was the cherished sister-in-law of Paul and Rosemary Broderick of Lynn and Elaine and Carlos DeCouto of Tewksbury. Jean also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless lifelong friends who will miss her dearly.
Family and friends are invited to gather for Visiting Hours at Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Avenue (Route 62), Wilmington, on Wednesday, July 22, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. All are welcome to meet at the funeral home on Thursday, July 23, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Dorothy’s Church, Main Street (Route 38), Wilmington. Interment will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington.
