Reporting To: Director of Elderly Services

Wages: $21.25/hourly

Hours: 19 hours per week, between the hours of 8:30AM and 4:30PM (occasional evening/weekend events)

Location: Senior Center, 130 Main Street

Definition

The Elder Services Kitchen Aide position is responsible for leading a volunteer team, preparing nutritious meals for seniors, ensuring safety measures are being followed, and overseeing volunteer contributions.

Essential Functions

Working under the supervision of the Director of Elderly Services and/or designee:

Prepares and serves meals, including some short order cooking and a variety of prep tasks in the kitchen; may
include menu planning.
• Assists with food orders, food order shipments, shopping, and monthly inventory of Senior Center kitchen/food supplies and needs.
• Maintains contact with kitchen vendors.
• Coordinates/oversees volunteer support for kitchen and dining events.
• Assists in unloading kitchen shipments, labeling, storing of food and supplies that are needed in the kitchen.
• Adheres to all food handling, food service, and safety and sanitation standards; including dating all food items in the storage room.
• Cleans, washes, and stores kitchen equipment; disposes of garbage.
• Assists with setting tables, removing dirty dishes, disposing of waste materials, and restocking kitchen inventory.
• Maintains statistics for the Senior Center and Minuteman Senior Services Meals programming.
• Reports kitchen appliances/equipment failure to director in a timely manner.
• Performs other similar tasks or related work as assigned by the department head and designee.
• Flexible work hours, accommodating occasional evenings.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma.
• Must possess and maintain an active ServSafe Certification.
• Experience cooking in a community setting or for groups over 100 and serving older adults.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and stand long hours as needed.
• Experience leading a team of volunteers a plus.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others, orally and in writing.
• Ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively with the public.
• Ability to exercise initiative and use good judgment, prioritize tasks, and work with limited direction and supervision in the completion of tasks and assignments.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Job Environment

Work is generally performed inside a building. The work environment is characteristic of a kitchen/dining environment. Noise levels may be elevated during certain programs or performances that may be scheduled in the building.

Physical Requirements

The work is generally of an intellectual nature. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is required to stand and sit for prolonged periods. Frequently required use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reaches with hands and arms, bends, stoops, kneels, and/or crouches. Specific vision abilities required include close and medium distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hear normal sounds, distinguish sound as voice and communicate through human speech. Required to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. This position requires the ability to operate a keyboard, computer mouse, telephone, fax, copier, writing tools, scissors, and other standard office equipment.
