WILMINGTON, MA — WUMC is pleased to announce that Reverend Cheryl L. Meachen, has been appointed as the new pastor of Wilmington United Methodist Church. Rev. Meachen comes to us from her last appointment at Oakdale United Methodist Church in West Boylston MA just outside Worcester. She was ordained as an elder by Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar and brings many years of experience in ministry, music, and community service to this new role.
Before becoming a pastor, Rev. Meachen worked as a paralegal and managed the legal clinics at the University of New Hampshire School of Law, where she helped low-income clients and assisted law students. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Franklin Pierce University and a Master of Divinity from the Boston University School of Theology.
She has held several leadership roles within the church network, served on the New Hampshire Council of Churches board, and volunteered locally as both a firefighter and an emergency medical responder. She currently serves on the New England Board of Ordained Ministry and is a chaplain for the Massachusetts State Police.
Reverend Meachen’s ministry includes a strong focus on local community support and global outreach. She has organized local projects such as making pillowcases for children at the UMASS pediatric oncology ward and baking pies for the Sterling Fair; and has led mission trips to help with flood relief in Vermont and medical clinics in Kenya. Outside of her work as a pastor and chaplain, she is a mother and grandmother who enjoys playing the piano, motorcycling, sewing and many other pursuits.
