WILMINGTON, MA — Leonard Paul Ouellette, age 85, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away on June 16, 2026.
Lennie was born on March 10, 1941, in Jay, ME. He was the loving son of the late Roland G. and Aurelie I. (Castonguay) Ouellette. He was raised in Jay, a small French-Canadian community, and graduated from Jay High School.
Lennie was the beloved husband of the late Dolores A. (Kinkaid) Ouellette, devoted father of Kevin Ouellette and his wife Michelle of Wellesley and Nicole Soule and her husband Aaron of Marblehead, and loving “Pepere” of Andrew Ouellette, Matthew Ouellette, Jacob Soule, and Dylan Soule. He was dear brother of Donald and Donna Ouellette of Wilmington and the late Suzanne and Andre Hebert of Maine and brother-in-law of Dorothy and Carl Sandquist of Florida. Lennie was also the uncle of Brian Ouellette, Eric Ouellette, Karen Bowden, Matthew Ouellette, and Brett Sandquist.
Lennie was a standout athlete at Jay High School. After attending St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia for one year, he moved to Boston, where his brother Don was residing, and began working for United Parcel Service. He also spent time in the U.S. Army National Guard and was selected as Assistant by his commanding Colonel, having been, in the Colonel’s words, “the most outstanding Private of the Guard.” He met Dolores at a Christmas cocktail party in 1965, and they were wed in Portsmouth, NH, on June 24, 1967. They moved to Wilmington in 1969, where they resided until their respective passings. He retired from UPS in 1995 after more than 30 years with the company.
Lennie loved attending sporting events of all types, whether at the professional, collegiate, or high school level. He enjoyed coaching Kevin and Nicole and attending their games when he was not coaching. He especially loved attending the musical performances and games of his grandsons. He was an avid golfer, playing often with his family and friends in New England, at his and Dolores’s second home in Bonita Springs, FL, and in many other locations on trips with family and friends. He and Dolores also enjoyed skiing in their 40s and 50s, until they began spending winters in Florida. He always enjoyed a friendly game of cribbage, hearts, whist, or dominoes.
