RACE FOR THE SIXTH: Progressive Massachusetts Endorses Tram Nguyen For Congress

Below is a press release from the Tram Nguyen For Congress campaign:

ANDOVER, MA — Progressive Massachusetts (Progressive Mass) recently endorsed Tram Nguyen’s campaign for Congress, saying when it comes to some of the key areas under attack from the Trump Administration, “Tram can be counted on to fight back.”

Progressive Mass is a grassroots organization that focuses on advancing progressive initiatives across the state, fostering an open and inclusive political environment, and fighting for a vision of shared prosperity, racial and social justice, good government and strong democracy, and environmental sustainability in Massachusetts.

“Tram Nguyen has a proven track record of fighting for working families, both as an attorney at Greater Boston Legal Services and a state representative and brings the lived experience of both an immigrant and a union member,” said Progressive Mass Policy Director Jonathan Cohn. “Since defeating a conservative Republican incumbent in the State House in 2018, she has been a reliable champion of legislation to protect workers, from expanding unemployment benefits during the pandemic to increasing the minimum wage to protecting injured workers from retaliation. At a time when immigrants’ rights, reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, workers’ rights, and climate action are under attack every day from the Trump administration, Tram can be counted on to fight back.”

Nguyen secured more than 60% of the member vote after all candidates in the race for the Sixth Congressional District submitted responses to a comprehensive policy questionnaire.

Momentum for Nguyen continues to build, with endorsements coming in from the SEIU State Council and Massachusetts Governor’s Councillor Eunice Zeigler who announced their support this week, and more than fifty of her colleagues in the State House, numerous city and town leaders, and six other labor organizations throughout the district and state.

ABOUT TRAM T. NGUYEN: State Representative Tram Nguyen has overcome tough challenges her entire life. At just five years old, Tram came to the United States as a refugee after her family fled Vietnam’s authoritarian regime with only $100, a few suitcases, and a dream. She has always been a fighter, becoming the first in her family to graduate from college, and as an attorney with the Greater Boston Legal Services standing up for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, veterans, immigrants, low-wage workers, and people with disabilities. In that role, Tram became a member of UAW Local 2320. In 2018, Tram took on a deeply entrenched Republican incumbent and won by ten points, making history as the first Vietnamese American woman elected to public office in Massachusetts. Since then, she has served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives as a bold champion for climate action, affordable housing, workers’ rights, and economic opportunity for all.
