Public Invited To June 22 Meeting To Learn About Proposed Traffic Improvements In North Wilmington

Below is an announcement from the Wilmington Department of Public Works:

WILMINGTON, MA — As you may be aware, the Town is advancing plans for a new elementary school project located at the existing North Intermediate School parcel. With the increase in students, a traffic study was completed to evaluate traffic impacts to the Town’s roadway network in the vicinity of the new school.

As expected, the traffic study confirmed an increase in traffic through the Middlesex Avenue and Salem Street corridor, to the intersection with High Street. The traffic study also identified intersection improvements that could promote better traffic flow, overall operations, and safety to this area of Town.

The Town has engaged Vanasse & Associates, Inc. to initiate preliminary design services and provide the Town with conceptual plans for upgrades to the local roadway network. There are three (3) intersections being considered for improvements to mitigate expected traffic impacts from the new school:

• Route 62 at Middlesex Avenue and High Street
• Middlesex Avenue at Salem Street
• Salem Street at Cunningham Street

The Department of Public Works is planning to present the preliminary design and concepts for all proposed roadway improvements to the public at the June 22, 2026, Select Board meeting. With the plans currently in the early (conceptual) stages, we are hoping that this meeting will provide an opportunity for the public to review the proposal and solicit any comments, concerns, or general feedback from the community.

Any updates regarding schedule for this public meeting will be posted to the Department of Public Works webpage under “News and Announcements” at https://www.wilmingtonma.gov/public-works

Should you have any questions prior to the Select Board meeting on June 22nd, please do not hesitate to contact the Engineering Division at 978-658-4499.
