LETTER: Wilmington Methodist Church Thanks Community For Support Of Its Food Pantry

To the Editor,

We are writing to express our gratitude to the people of Wilmington.

When Wilmington United Methodist Church first started our small food pantry, it was born out of an immediate concern: the looming threat of cuts to SNAP benefits and the impact that would have on our neighbors.

However, as the cost of everyday living, housing, and basic groceries has steadily climbed, this little pantry has evolved from a temporary safety net into an ongoing lifeline for many families in town.

What has moved us most since the start is the unwavering reliability of the people of Wilmington. Every time a call goes out for specific donations—whether we are running low on staples, or have a specific monthly focus—the community responds without hesitation. When asked to contribute, our neighbors always do. Items quietly appear, shelves are replenished, and the collective burden becomes just a little bit lighter for those struggling to make ends meet.

It is easy to feel overwhelmed by the rising costs around us, but the generosity of this town serves as a constant reminder of what can be achieved when we look out for one another. Thank you, Wilmington, for your big hearts, your continuous giving, and your commitment to making sure no one in our community goes hungry.

With sincere appreciation,

Wilmington United Methodist Church
