Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:
WILMINGTON, MA — Ann M. Hunt (Birt), age 82, of Wilmington, formerly a longtime resident of Medford, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 18, 1944, Ann was the cherished only child of the late Alfred and Margaret (MacEachern) Birt. She was raised and educated in Everett and was a proud graduate of Everett High School. Growing up, Ann’s family owned a local diner in Everett where she enjoyed working alongside friends and spending time with members of the community she loved so dearly.
In January of 1965, Ann married her sweetheart, Paul Hunt. Together they began their life in Malden before settling in South Medford, where they lovingly raised their family and created a home that was warm, welcoming, and always open to family and friends.
Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy in life was her family. She especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless happiness, renewed energy, and laughter. She loved taking the grandchildren to Stone Zoo, spending summers in York, Maine, enjoying breakfasts with family and friends, shopping for pocketbooks, and occasionally heading to the casino “just to try her luck.” In quieter moments, she enjoyed reading and catching up on her favorite soap operas.
Throughout her life, Ann worked tirelessly and embraced every opportunity to learn and grow. She had a passion for education and was always taking classes to stay current with evolving workplace trends. For many years, she served as a Supervisor for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Division of Healthcare Training, where she was deeply respected for her compassion, leadership, and dedication to helping others. She took great pride in mentoring and training coworkers, always encouraging kindness and excellence in caring for others.
Ann’s compassion extended far beyond her professional life. For many years, she volunteered in hospice care, traveling between hospice houses and private homes to ensure that individuals could pass with dignity, comfort, and love. Her selflessness and gentle spirit touched countless lives. To all who knew her, Ann truly was an angel on earth.
Beautiful inside and out, Ann possessed a heart of gold and leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family and friends. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
Ann was the beloved wife of the late Paul Hunt Sr. She was the devoted mother of Paul Hunt Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Goffstown, NH; Karen Ianniciello and her husband Elio of Wilmington; and the late Derek Hunt and his late wife Shari. She was the loving “Nana” of Krista Bonetti and her husband Andrew, Austin Hunt, Gregory Hunt, Jacob Hunt and his wife Colleen, Samantha Ianniciello, and Alyssa Hunt. She was also the cherished great-grandmother of Mila, Henry, Jayce, Eva, and Elaina.
Family and friends will gather for a Graveside Service on Friday, May 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Dale Cemetery, 150 Forest Street, Malden, MA. Please gather at the front gate.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ann’s memory may be made to Zoo New England, Attn: Development Office, 1 Franklin Park Road, Boston, MA 02121, in support of Stone Zoo, a place that brought Ann and her family so much joy over the years.
