WILMINGTON, MA — For the first time in seven years, Wilmington voters will see contested races for both the Select Board and School Committee when they go to the polls on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
With March 7 filing deadline passing, the Town Clerk’s Office reports that 10 residents successfully returned nomination papers to run in this year’s election.
Select Board Race: 3 Candidates For 2 Seats
Three residents are running for two seats on the Wilmington Select Board.
3-term incumbent Kevin Caira is seeking re-election.
Steven Hunt (a recently retired longtime DPW employee) and Jacob Gearwar (Chair of the Wilmington Economic Development Committee and CFO of a local tech company) are looking to join the board.
A fourth resident — Donald Leiskau — pulled nomination papers, did not return them.
Chairman Greg Bendel announced last month we would not be seeking re-election.
School Committee Race: 4 Candidates For 3 Seats
Four residents are running for three seats on the Wilmington School Committee.
2-term incumbent Jesse Fennelly and and 1-term incumbent Stephen Turner are seeking re-election.
2 other parents — Becky Lord (a K-8 Math/Special Education Consultant with a Masters of Education in Special Education) and Mallory Mahoney (a Senior Product Manager for a healthcare company with an MBA in Marketing) — have stepped forward and put their names on the ballot.
The third incumbent — Jay Samaha — announced last month he would not be seeking re-election.
Uncontested Races
Thomas W. Siracusa, a former longtime member of the Board of Appeals, is running unopposed for an open 3-year seat on the Wilmington Housing Authority.
Ann Marie Hill, a tenant of Deming Way, is running unopposed for an open 5-year seat on the Wilmington Housing Authority.
Incumbent Gwen Hupper-Lawson is seeing her second term on the Shawsheen Tech School Committee. She did not draw any challengers.
