Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:
WILMINGTON, MA — On Friday October 4th, 2024 Kathleen Gagnon (Malone), loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at the age of 71. On her final day she celebrated her 50th Wedding Anniversary with loving husband James by her side.
The family that her love touched was numerous. In addition to James, Kathy is survived by her son Christopher, daughter in law Joanna, and granddaughters Maya (7) and Eliza (3) who affectionately referred to her as Gram. In retirement, Kathy’s biggest love was spending time with her granddaughters. She especially enjoyed cuddling with Eliza on the couch and taking Maya to horseback riding lessons.
Her extended family includes beloved siblings Stephen and Debbie Malone, Caryl Malone, Jay Malone, and Jackie and Margie Malone. She was pre-deceased by her loving parents, Jane Gagne and James Malone. Family that she adored also included James’ siblings, numerous nieces and nephews of the Malone and Gagnon family, and many cherished friends.
Whether Kathy was curled up with a good book or a heartwarming movie, or on the road on one of her numerous trips to see the world, Kathy unapologetically sought out what she loved. Her fondest trips included a tour of Ireland, a trip to Yellowstone, numerous family trips to Ogunquit beach, and cruises to Alaska and through the Panama Canal.
Kathy not only unconditionally supported her family in following the course in life that brought them happiness, but she was a model of this approach to life. She was the epitome of “speak softly and carry a big stick.” While she did not always share her opinion, when she did, you knew it was thoughtful and thus, people listened.
Kathy made the world’s best Christmas fudge. Yes, she accomplished many other things, but the quality of her fudge cannot be overstated. It brought comfort and joy to friends, family, colleagues and literally anyone who came across its divine nature. The fudge was an embodiment of the love Kathy had for her family and friends.
While one by one, the memories of a beautiful life flickered and dimmed, she continued to cherish the warm embrace of friends and family. She found comfort whenever surrounded by conversation and laughter. She never stopped absorbing the love coming from those around her, and she returned it in kind. She never stopped being Kathy.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Kathleen’s life on Thursday, October 10 th starting with Visiting Hours from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, and followed by a Graveside Service in the Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA (please use 2nd cemetery entrance off of Wildwood St.) at 12:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in memory of Kathleen to the High Pointe House online or by mail to the High Pointe House, c/o Tufts Medicine Care at Home, Philanthropy Office, 847 Rogers St., Suite 201, Lowell, MA 01852.
