Below is a letter from Wilmington School Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand sent in late March:

Dear Members of the West Intermediate Community,

I am pleased to inform you that we have successfully completed the search for the next principal of the West Intermediate School, and it is my pleasure to announce that Mr. Michael Walsh has accepted my offer to become the school’s next principal, pending successful contract negotiations.

Mr. Walsh has over fourteen (14) years of public education experience. Currently Mr. Walsh serves in the role of Assistant Principal for the Emily G. Wetherbee School, Lawrence, MA. Prior to Mr. Walsh’s role of assistant principal, he held the role of Dean of School Climate and Culture for the Emily Wetherbee School, effective 2019 – 2021. Prior to joining the Wetherbee School in a leadership role, Mr. Walsh taught Grade 8 Math for eight (8) years.

During Mr. Walsh’s role as Assistant Principal he has been responsible for many aspects of school administration including student discipline, attendance, student services, MCAS administration, scheduling, policy development, curriculum implementation, using data for student success, special education, 504 Plans, as well as staff supervision and evaluations. Mr. Walsh has also been responsible for assisting with developing and coordinating professional development opportunities and conducting teacher observations and evaluations. Mr. Walsh has been known to wear many different hats at one time and possesses the ability to switch gears without missing a beat.

Mr. Walsh prides himself on being an accessible, visible and an empathetic listener who has strong interpersonal skills working with diverse groups. Mr. Walsh has a hands-on approach and believes connection with educators, students and the community is vital to overall success and the best possible outcome for students.

Mr. Walsh holds a Master of Education from American International College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from Bentley University, Waltham, MA.

The search process included an in-person site visit to the West Intermediate School where Mr. Walsh spent the better portion of a day meeting staff, district leaders and members of the community. Members of the site visit committee, including representatives from the Central Office Leadership Team, as well as staff and parent representatives, also participated in a site visit with members of the Emily Wetherbee School educational community.

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Michael Walsh to the Wilmington Public School community.

Regards,

Glenn Brand, Ed.D.
