OBITUARY: Douglas “Doug” Bevis, 77

Below is an obituary shared by the family:

HOLIDAY, FL — Douglas “Doug” Bevis, most recently of Holiday, Florida, passed away at his home on April 11, 2024. Doug was born on April 13, 1946 in Florence, Alabama. Son of the late Hazel Brazeal and Bertis Bevis Sr., Doug grew up in Stigler, Oklahoma. After high school, Doug went into the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam war as a Navy Seal. Once finishing up his tour, he settled in Massachusetts where he met his late wife Linda (Wojer). Doug and Linda raised four boys in Wilmington, Massachusetts and Doug resided there until a few years ago, when he relocated to Holiday, Florida with his wife Linda (Hamilton) and their dog Rusty to escape the cold weather.

When his sons were young, Doug taught them how to work on cars. He was an auto body technician by trade and he enjoyed spending time with his boys, passing on his knowledge. While none of them followed in his footsteps, each still knows his way around a spray gun. Doug also loved to sing and was in a band for many years called the Southern Knights. Before moving to Florida, Doug, Linda and Rusty spent some time as seasonal residents at the Friendly Beaver Campground in New Boston, NH. There Doug helped his son Tommy paint golf carts, helped his son Timmy build a deck for his camper, and enjoyed quality time around the fire with sons Dougie and Shawn when they came up to visit. Doug loved spending time with his family, especially around a fire. After moving to Florida, Doug spent time whittling; gifting his creations to friends and family. Doug had the gift of gab and a southern accent, making friends and conversation everywhere he went. He will be truly missed by all who had the chance to meet him and spend time with him.

Doug is survived by his wife, Linda (Hamilton), and his sons and their wife’s and partner Douglas and his partner Dawn of Chelmsford, MA , Shawn and his wife Malinda of Wilmington, MA, Timothy and his wife Marisa of Wilmington, Ma, and Thomas and his wife Jo-Ann of Andover, Ma. He is survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and so many others who he loved dearly. He is also survived by his brothers Jeff and Dennis Brazeal of Arizona, and his sister Nancy Hess of Oklahoma. Doug was predeceased by his brothers Don Brazeal of Colorado and Bertis Bevis Jr. of Alabama.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in Doug’s honor can be made to Tunnels to Towers, Vietnam Veterans of America or Boston’s Wounded Vet Run.
