OBITUARY: Ralph E. Belmore, Jr., 92

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — Ralph E. Belmore, Jr., age 92, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on March 19, 2024.

Ralph was born on February 29, 1932, a Leap Year baby, in Somerville, MA; he was the dear son and only beloved child of the late Ralph & Mildred (Carroll) Belmore. In 1963, his family moved to West Street in Wilmington, MA, the place he called home for more than 61 years. Ralph attended Wakefield Public Schools and was a graduate of Wakefield High School class of 1950.

Ralph is remembered for his courageous service in the Korean War where he enlisted from 1952-1954. Ralph was inflight on a C46 US Army transport plane serving as a radio operator, when it dived into the ocean 3 miles off the coast of Myho, Japan on Thanksgiving eve in 1953; he was one of many that survived.

Ralph wed Ella Daley, the love of his life, on May 10, 1958 and they were blessed with 65 glorious years together. Together they brought into the world 5 children; Cheri, Darlene, Bob, Brian, and Lorraine.

Ralph was employed at Avco and Raytheon, an engineer for missile defense. He retired from Kevlin Manufacturing in 2002, which he referred to lovingly as his second family.

Ralph’s favorite hobbies included long hours spent working on broadcasting his radio station and recording music with his band, The Boston Boys. He was a proud owner of multiple ice cream stores, known locally as Ralphs’s Dairy Delights. He enjoyed many vacations in Tabusintac, New Brunswick with loved ones and cruising with family at his side to Bermuda and the Caribbean. He was known to be a food connoisseur, with family warmly remembering his love for chocolate buffets at midnight. He also enjoyed the yearly circus and rodeo trips with his children and grandchildren, fireworks, amusement parks and on any day of the week watching sports, his favorite especially being football. His family will always cherish the memorable tradition that will continue to be passed down through the years; every Christmas Eve the jolly PAPA known and loved by all, would put on his red suit, and bring chaos to the sleeping grandchildren by throwing candy canes, ringing bells and chanting Ho, Ho, Ho!

A loving father, uncle, cousin and friend, Ralph’s famous words were, “Look what I created!”, referring to his family and humorously forgetting to credit his wife Ella. He leaves behind his three daughters and two sons – Cheri and her husband John S. Bartlett III, Darlene and her husband Richard Langone, Ralph (Bob) and his wife Reva Belmore, Brian and wife Eugenia Belmore, and Lorraine and her husband Levon Kazelyan. Ralph was the loving grandfather of 11 grandchildren – Jason Langone, Bryan Langone, Matthew Langone, Jonathan Langone, Richard Langone, John Bartlett IV, Jillian Steeves, Ashley Belmore, Levon Kazelyan, Chantelle Kazelyan and Monique Kazelyan — they will forever remember “Papa”, “Pop” & “Big Papa”. Ralph adored his 9 great grandchildren, Jack, Dylan, Ariella, Brooke, Bryson, Maddie, Caden, Aubrey, and Ava.

Family and friends gathered for Visitation on Friday, March 22nd from 4-7 PM at Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Avenue (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA. Funeral services were held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, March 23rd at 10:30 AM and concluded with Military Honors. Interment took place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.
