WILMINGTON RESTAURANT NEWS: Sunnyside Cafe To Close; Pizza Mia Building Up For Sale; Greg’s Pizza Gets New Owner

Below is some of the latest news from the Wilmington restaurant scene:

  • A North Wilmington institution is closing its doors. Sunnyside Cafe (2 Jefferson Road) announced on social media Thursday that it will be shutting down on Friday, June 16, 2023 after 23 years in business. The café’s building is being demolished to make way for the forthcoming 108-unit apartment complex next door on Jefferson Road. Some Sunnyside staff members will be making the move to Cucina LaRosa’s, once it opens, to serve breakfast.
  • The Wilmington Select Board recently unanimously approved a common victualer license and all-alcohol license for Cucina LaRosa’s (228 Main Street). Owner Jason Evans hopes to open in July, and is planning to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus brunch on Sunday. Learn more HERE.
  • The building that houses Pizza Mia and Uptown Deli & Catering (363 Middlesex Avenue) is currently for sale, presenting a likely redevelopment opportunity. The 9,544 industrial/retail building has a $1.649 million asking price. See the listing HERE.

North Wilmington

  • Greg’s Pizza (101 Main Street) has a new owner. Mujhid Nawaz, of MN Pizza and Friend Chicken Inc., is requesting a common victualer license from the Select Board at its Monday, June 12, 2023 meeting. It’s not yet known if he plans on making any major changes.
  • Code 1 BBQ (211 Main Street) was recently spotlighted by Phantom Gourmet. The restaurant also just issued an updated menu. Tremezzo Ristorante (2 Lowell Street) also recently revealed an updated menu.
  • If you grab a bite to eat at McDonald’s (212 Main Street) this weekend, don’t forget to donate to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. The Wilmington location’s “Give A Little Love” campaign wraps up on June 12.
  • The Wilmington Farmers Market (140 Middlesex Avenue, Swain Green) is holding its Opening Day this Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 10am to 1pm, at the Swain Green, across from the Town Common. 11 food vendors are scheduled, plus live music with the Merrimack Valley Chorus, a car wash to benefit the WHS Football Team, a photo opportunity with a Wilmington police cruiser, a knife sharpener, and crafts for kids.
