Statement From Wilmington Police Chief Joseph Desmond On The Passing Of Attorney Scott Garrant

Below is a statement from Wilmington Police Chief Joseph Desmond:

To the family of friends of Attorney Scott Garrant,

On behalf of the men and women of the Wilmington Police Department and myself, I wish to extend my sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Scott Garrant. The loss of Scott has left a void in the Town of Wilmington that will be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Scott and his family became an integral part of our community when they moved to Wilmington in 1995. From the moment he arrived, Scott dedicated his time, energy, and passion to making our town a better place for everyone. His commitment to service and his unwavering dedication to numerous civic roles were truly remarkable.

Scott’s contributions to the community were many including serving as a member of the Wilmington Youth Soccer Board, offering his time and insights as a member of the Wilmington Board of Appeals, and well as serving as co-chairman of the Wilmington Master Plan Committee, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the future of our town.

Scott’s service to the community extended to his role as a town Selectman, where he worked tirelessly to represent the best interests of our residents. His leadership and dedication to public service were evident in every decision he made, always striving to make Wilmington a better place to live.

For over two decades, Scott served as a member, and later as chairman, of the Wilmington 4th of July Committee. His tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to organizing this cherished annual celebration brought joy and a sense of unity to our community. As the Lieutenant in charge of the Traffic and Safety Division, I had the privilege of working closely with Scott during these festivities, witnessing firsthand his exceptional organizational skills and his genuine passion for creating memorable experiences for our residents.

Scott Garrant’s impact on the Town of Wilmington and the lives of its residents cannot be overstated. His selflessness, dedication, and unwavering commitment to community service will be remembered and cherished for years to come.

I hope that during this difficult time, Scott’s family may find solace in the memories of Scott’s remarkable life and the positive influence he had on so many. May you find strength, comfort, and support from your loved ones and our community as you grieve.

With sincere sympathy,

Joseph Desmond
Chief of Police
