Wilmington’s Charlie Fiore Elected Chair Of Shawsheen Tech School Committee

BILLERICA, MA — Last week, during its annual reorganization, the Shawsheen Tech School Committee unanimously elected Charles “Charlie” Fiore to serve as its Chair for the next 12 months. Fiore, along with Gwen Lawson, are Wilmington’s two elected representatives to the 10-member Committee.

Fiore, who has served on the School Committee for the past two years, initially received six of the ten votes, including Ken Moffatt (Burlington), Brian O’Donnell (Bedford), Cheryl Bartolone (Tewksbury), Christine Kim (Burlington), Lawson, and himself.  The four other members — who were supporting the most recent Chair, Ron Fusco, ultimately switched their votes in a revote to make Fiore’s selection unanimous.

Several members, including O’Donnell and Kim, indicated they would like to see the Chair rotate each year, giving different members — who represent different communities —  opportunities to serve in leadership roles.

In subsequent votes, O’Donnell was elected Vice Chair, Lawson was elected Secretary and Kim was elected Treasurer. All votes were unanimous.

Fiore currently serves as the Lieutenant Commander for the Wilmington Police Department’s Detective Bureau. A police veteran of 37 years, Fiore also served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard. He is near life-long resident, moving to Wilmington at the age of 3, and a graduate of Shawsheen Tech. A former Selectman in town (2006-2009), Fiore was elected to the School Committee in 2021 after longtime  member Jim Gillis did not seek re-election. In addition to his service to the town, Fiore is well-known for his family’s memorable Christmas Lights display.
