WILMINGTON, MA — Michael D. McDonnell, age 73, of Wilmington, MA, formerly of East Rockaway, NY, passed away on March 31, 2023.
Michael was born on December 22, 1949, in Flushing, New York; he was the dear son of the late James and Iris McDonnell. Michael was raised and educated in East Rockaway, New York. Following High School, Michael enlisted in the United States Air Force in November of 1968. Michael completed his active duty in September of 1970 when he was honorably discharged and returned home to his family. Michael went on to serve the country in the United States Air Force Reserves until November of 1974.
Michael worked hard throughout his life; for many years he was a salesman for the manufacturing industry. In his spare time, he was an avid boater and fisherman.
Michael will be fondly remembered for his great love for animals and his passion for hotrods. His love for life was shown in his great sense of humor and quick wit. Mike loved to work with his hands and was incredibly talented. He loved spending time with his family and loved ones; Mike will be greatly missed by all.
Michael was the beloved father of Tammy Gagnon & her husband Paul of Wilmington and Michael McDonnell, Jr. of San Francisco, CA. Loving “Pop” of Robert & partner Taylor, Ashley, Mitchell, Kailyn, Mikayla & husband Gaige, Cameron, Jayda, and Great-granddaughter Morgan Mae. Cherished son of the late James and Iris (Golsner) McDonnell and the youngest of five siblings: James, Doreen, the late Iris, the late Kathy, and the late Jimmy. Mike is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Saturday, April 15th from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. with a Service at 12:30 p.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Veteran’s Section of Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.
