TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Shawsheen Ave./Hopkins St. Intersection Improvement Project To Begin In April, Finish In August

Below is an announcement from the Wilmington Department of Public Works:

WILMINGTON, MA — Please be advised that the Department of Public Works will be advancing this spring with the anticipated construction of improvements to the Shawsheen Avenue and Hopkins / Lake Street intersection, as presented in the Town’s Capital Improvement Plan. The Town’s contractor for this project, Dagle Electrical Construction Corporation, is anticipating a start date as soon as Tuesday, April 18, 2023. The project is expected to conclude by the end of August 2023, weather permitting and barring unanticipated delays.

This important intersection project includes the replacement and installation of new traffic signal mast arms, signal heads, traffic controller and cabinet, conduit, curbing, sidewalks and accessible ramps, paving and traffic markings. The project also includes new accessible parking spaces (along Hopkins Street) with access to the existing Shawsheen Elementary School side entrance. As such, the project does include some minor grading and walkway work on school property.

Electronic copies of the work plan are available in the Wilmington DPW Engineering Division Office located at 121 Glen Road (Wilmington Town Hall) and can be provided upon request by calling 978-658-4499.

Faculty, staff, students and parents will have access to and from Shawsheen Elementary School throughout construction, although there may be short delays to accommodate worker and public safety.

We ask that everyone please obey the directives of police details and warning signage during this operation. While traffic delays are expected, they will be minimal and area residents and local businesses will maintain access to their properties throughout construction.

If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact the Wilmington Engineering Division at 978-658-4499 or the Wilmington DPW administration office at 978-658-4481. You may also email the Town Engineer, Paul Alunni, at palunni@wilmingtonma.gov.
