Below is a press release from the Shawsheen Tech:
BILLERICA, MA — Shawsheen Tech has some of the best vocational-technical students in the state, and its students are proving that statement true.
One-hundred and seventy-six students ranging from sophomores to seniors competed in the SkillsUSA District competition last week and earned sixty-seven medals including twenty gold and twenty silver. Forty-one students now advance to compete at the State competition to be held in April in Marlborough and Upton. Gold medalists there earn the right to compete at the National competition held in Atlanta in June.
Shawsheen displayed dominance throughout the competition earning medals in nineteen of the school’s twenty vocational-technical programs with thirty-eight percent of participants earning medals. In three categories (Health Knowledge Bowl, Masonry, and Medical Terminology), Shawsheen swept the medal stand by winning gold, silver, and bronze in each.
“The SkillsUSA experience is not only a chance for students to build upon their self-confidence, but opportunities in engage in a lifetime of memories,” described longtime Shawsheen Director of Vocational-Technical programs, Dave Norkiewicz. “This level of success is reflective of the high-quality programs we provide. While the number of medals is impressive, even more remarkable is the fact that nineteen of our programs recorded medals.”
