Below is a press release from the Wilmington High School Lamplighters Drama Guild:
WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Lamplighters Drama Guild’s production of “School of Rock – The Musical” opens on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the Joanne M. Benton Auditorium at Wilmington High School (159 Church Street).
Based on the 2003 movie featuring Jack Black, “School of Rock: The Musical” tells the story of Dewey Finn, a failed rock-star wannabe who poses as a substitute teacher at the prestigious Horace Green prep school in order to earn some extra cash. This wild card substitute teacher turns out to be exactly who the kids need in their lives as he converts them from straight A-pupils into a bass-slapping, guitar-shredding, mind-blowing rock band. But can Dewey sneak them past the teachers and their parents to compete in the “Battle of Bands”? Along the way, he discovers his true destiny and teaches the kids and their parents the beauty of Rock & Roll.
With music from world-famous composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, the show features 14 new songs in addition to songs from the movie.
Artistic Director Samantha Prindiville leads a cast of 37 high school and middle school students, with an additional 16 students participating as members of the crew. The students have been working incredibly hard on this production and would truly appreciate your audience support!
Showtime is 7:00pm on Thursday, March 23, 2023; Friday, March 24, 2023; and Saturday, March 25, 2023, with an additional 1:00pm matinee on March 25.
