OBITUARY: Janice R. (Kaminsky) Sylvia, 84

Below is an obituary from Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — Janice R. (Kaminsky) Sylvia passed away peacefully at Adviniacare Nursing Home in Wilmington, MA on Thursday, December 8th. The beloved wife of the late James W. Sylvia Jr., she was eighty-four years of age.

Born in Cambridge, MA. she was the only child and daughter of John and Alvina Kaminsky. Raised and educated in Cambridge, she was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin School, along with the Class of 1946.

While vacationing on the Cape with friends, she was introduced to a native Cape Codder, Jim Sylvia. Well over a year later they were married, and had made their home in Somerville, later moving to the West Side of Woburn.

Raising two sons (James and Kenneth) kept them both quite busy. Attending kids sporting events (hockey, baseball), camping and fishing all over New England, and vacationing at various beaches on Cape Cod kept her busy throughout the years.

After her sons were grown, it started all over again with her watching her granddaughter’s Hannah and Hailey playing soccer, softball, and basketball.

“Grandma” was very active with her grandchildren and would always take the opportunity to spend time with them on holidays, birthdays, and family get togethers. Of course, when school shopping came around, “Grandma” was right there to take them clothes shopping, always making it a special day!

Family pets were always given special attention by grandma as well. Janice loved animals, always going for walks, or just hanging around with them in her backyard.

A very gracious and caring woman, she loved life and her family. She was a faith filled woman attending the First Congregational Church, when the children were growing up and was always comfortable attending different churches along her journey in this life.

Sadly, Janice was predeceased by her husband Jim in May of 2018. She was the cherished mother of Ken Sylvia, his wife Stacey of Woburn and James K. Sylvia of Ohio. Loving “Grandma” of Hannah and Hailey Sylvia of Woburn, Jacob (Jake) Sylvia, his wife Ciara of Tennessee, and “Great Grandma” of Lucrecia.

Relatives and friends were  respectfully invited to the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, December 16th from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Private Interment  followed at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA at 12:45 p.m.
