OBITUARY: Robert W. Aalerud, 96

WILMINGTON, MA — Robert W. Aalerud, “Bob”, age 96, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2022, at the Meadow Green Nursing Center in Waltham, MA.

Bob was born in Everett, MA, on September 30, 1926; he was the dear son of the late Sigurd and Hanna (Johnson) Aalerud. Bob was raised and educated in Malden, MA, and a graduate of Malden High School.

Following graduation, Bob enlisted in the United States Coast Guard on August 22, 1944; proudly serving the Country during World War II. Bob served aboard several Vessels including the USS Randall; he was honorably discharged in May of 1946 and returned home to his family.

Bob married his “sweetheart” Sue Rose Earley in 1951; together they shared 58 years of marriage, raised three wonderful children and enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, family and friends, before Sue’s untimely death in 2009.

Prior to retiring, Bob was employed as a machinist for MIT in Cambridge, MA, for many years. Bob had a great work ethic, a vast knowledge of the machine shop and made many friends at MIT throughout the years.

Bob leaves behind his three children, Bill Aalerud and his companion Marina Belyea of Lexington, MA, Ken Aalerud and his wife Janet of Ft. Myers, FL, Elaine Wonson and her husband Mark of Gloucester, MA and his daughter-in-law Karen Eldracher of Winchester, MA, as well as his loving grandchildren Claire Aalerud, Alison Poallilo and her husband Mitchell, Charlene King and her husband Brian, Kenny Aalerud, Jr., Eric Aalerud, Tim Aalerud, Emily Wonson, Lauren Wonson and his great-grandchildren Logan Aalerud, Lucas Aalerud, Alexis Aalerud, Charles King, Amelia King, William King and Victoria King. Bob was the dear brother of Elna “Ellie” Bent and her husband Fred of Wilmington, MA and the late Thelma Moore and her late husband Eric. Bob is further survived by his nieces, nephews and their families.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Monday, November 28th for Visitation from 12:00 – 12:30 p.m. A graveside service with Military Honors will follow in the Veteran’s Section of Wildwood Cemetery, 233 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA, at 12:45 p.m.
