WILMINGTON, MA — Madeleine Campbell, age 61, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2022.
Madeleine was born in Winchester, MA, on December 5, 1960; she was the dear daughter of the late James and Antoinette (Navarro) Campbell. Madeleine was one of nine siblings who were raised in a large and loving family. Madeleine was educated in the Wilmington Public Schools and was a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1979.
Madeleine worked in food service most of her life beginning with her duties as a waitress at their family restaurant, Campbell’s, located on Main Street in Wilmington. She also worked with several caterers throughout the years doing weddings and social events; Madeleine had a great work ethic and a friendly demeanor with the customers as well as the staff.
Madeline loved spending time with her daughters, granddaughters and family; she enjoyed everyone getting together for family gatherings and holidays. Madeleine liked to chaperone field trips with her girls and always made sure the kids had fun. Madeleine was very social and a good hostess; she was a great cook and took over making the traditional artichokes at the holidays although she was known to go heavy on the garlic.
Madeleine had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening; she also liked to knit, do crafts and take care of children. Madeleine had a generous heart and would give you the “shirt off her back”. She will forever live in the hearts of those she touched.
Madeleine was the beloved mother of Michelle Steen of Rhode Island, Maryanne Steen and Deborah Steen both of Wilmington, “Grandma” of Arianna, Payton, Jocelyn, Nevaeh and Alexis. She was the dear sister of the late Major Leo W. Campbell and his wife Kathleen Campbell of Wilmington, Dorothy Campbell of Haverhill, COL Ret. Dr. John Campbell and his wife Tish of Alabama, SSGT Ret. Paul Campbell and his wife Cindy of Andover, Marianne Smith and her husband Mort of California, Marjorie Campbell and her late husband Rob Bartlett of Salisbury, LT. COL Ret. Peter Campbell and his wife Renate of Kansas and Jennifer Martin and her husband Chris of California. Madeleine is further survived by many nieces and nephews and their families, as well as her aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Thursday, September 8th for Visitation from 4:00-6:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 6:00 p.m.
