SLOW DOWN: 3 Weeks After A Town Ambulance Is Crashed Into, A Driver Crashes Into A Town Fire Engine

Below is a press release from the Wilmington Fire Department:

WILMINGTON, MA — At approximately 11:15pm on Sunday, June 5, 2022, our Tower unit was struck by a motorist while blocking lanes for a previous accident. No members of the Wilmington Fire Department were injured in this accident. The Tower, however, sustained moderate damage to the front passenger doors sand tire. I expect the Tower to be out of service for less than a week.

This is the second accident involving Wilmington Fire apparatus in a month’s time. None of these accidents were due to careless operation on the part of a member of this Department. We are fortunate that there were no injuries last night and that the injuries sustained in the previous accident were not life threatening.

While we may be down two vehicles, rest assured that with our reserve apparatus and the assistance that we receive through mutual aid agreements from surrounding communities, the residents of Wilmington will not experience any reduction in service from the Wilmington Fire Department.

William F. Cavanaugh, III, Chief, Wilmington Fire Department
