OBITUARY: Donna S. MacCallum, 80

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — Donna S. MacCallum, age 80, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on May 28, 2022.

Donna was born on July 7, 1941, in Somerville, MA; she was the adored daughter of the late Roland H. and Pearl V. (Gillis) MacCallum. Donna was raised in Somerville and the youngest of ten siblings; she graduated from Somerville High School.

Donna moved to Wilmington in 1963 with her mother and her sister, Barbara, to be closer to family. She loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own and spent many holidays and family cookouts together over the early years.

Donna enjoyed taking trips to her parents’ native Prince Edward Island in Canada, where she spent time on the family farm. She often spent the summers in Canada and made many wonderful memories with her extended family and her closest niece, Minna Good, who was close in age and more like a sister.

Donna was a talented painter and enjoyed woodworking; she made several pieces of furniture, built a screen house along with a beautiful intricate dollhouse for her great niece. The family often compared Donna’s paintings to Bob Ross’ paintings; she had a gift and made many beautiful treasures.

Donna’s family was most important to her; she looked forward to her visits at the beloved cottage in Pigeon Cove, Rockport, which was once her brother Roland’s. Donna and her sister Barbara were life-long roommates and opened their home to their sister Helen and her children. They welcomed them with open arms and loved them if they were their own.

Donna will be remembered as a warm gentle soul and a generous lady. She had an innocent, mischievous sense of humor she shared with her beloved niece Minna and shone through near the end.

Donna was the cherished daughter of the late Roland H. and Pearl V. (Gillis) MacCallum, dear sister of 9 late siblings, loving aunt of Linda Balduf of Gloucester and Wilmington, David Mann, Barbara Richards both of Tewksbury, Victoria Davis of Ipswich, Minna Good of Walpole, NH, and the late Steven Mann. Great aunt of Joshua Murphy & fiance’ Nicole, Matthew and Dylan Mann of FL, Kristen & Joe Richards of Framingham, Emily & Colton Davis of Ipswich. Donna is also survived by many other loving nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Donna’s Life will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations in Donna’s name may be made to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601 (lung.org) or your local Animal Shelter.
