UPDATED SERVICE INFORMATION FOR MAUREEN SHEEHAN. MASS SATURDAY MAY 14, 2022, at 11:30 A.M. IN ST. THOMAS CHURCH, WILMINGTON.
WILMINGTON, MA — Maureen T. Sheehan (Murphy), age 75, of Wilmington, passed away on May 1, 2020, at the Beverly Hospital after a courageous battle with COVID-19.
Maureen was born on October 28, 1944, in Somerville, MA. She was the dear daughter of the late Timothy and Margaret Murphy. Maureen was raised in Somerville, attended catholic school, and graduated St. Clement High School with the Class of 1962.
In 1967, Maureen married her beloved husband and best friend Tom Sheehan. The couple lived in Somerville for several years before moving to Wilmington where they raised their three children Kerry, Beth, and Tommy. Maureen was a wonderful wife and mother; her family always came first in her life. Maureen was always there to support her children with their school and sporting activities throughout the years. Maureen enjoyed family vacations to Ireland, Marshfield, Chatham, and China Lake where many fond memories were made and a good time was had by all. Maureen cherished her role as “Nana” to her grandchildren and was looking forward to the birth of her first great grandchild this summer. Maureen’s grandchildren became the center of her life in her later years; she attended countless sporting events, dance recitals, and school plays. Maureen’s face always lit up when she spoke of her grandkids.
Maureen worked hard throughout her life. During her children’s elementary years, Maureen worked as a union waitress in the hotels of Boston. Maureen was also a favorite crossing guard at the Woburn Street School and was always looking out for the safety of her students. Once her children were older she went back to work full time and worked for many years in the accounts receivable department at the Addison Wesley Publishing Company, Houghton Mifflin, Rogers Radiator and eventually retired from L-3 Communications in Billerica. Maureen’s endearing personality made her well liked by her co-workers who became great friends and extended family.
Maureen was a woman of great faith and an active member of St. Thomas of Villanova Church; for many years she was very instrumental in heading up the St. Thomas Women’s Club and ran countless craft fairs throughout the years. Maureen was a regular with a group of girlfriends at the Saturday evening Mass and then their weekly trip to Rocco’s for dinner.
Maureen was also very active in her community. In her retirement, she volunteered at the Woburn Street School where she was involved in countless activities, worked the Election polls, and volunteered for many years at A.I.M. (Access is Mandatory) with a group of friends helping those less fortunate; she was always so kind towards others.
In her spare time, Maureen, looked forward to traveling all over with her husband Tom, her children, and her friends. Following Tom’s death, Maureen, along with her sister-in-law Maryann Nolan and her friends took many trips with the Wilmington Recreation Department; she enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people.
Maureen will be fondly remembered as a “true friend” in every sense of the word; she was loyal, supportive, a good listener; she treated her friends with unconditional love and respect. Maureen had friends from her early childhood that remained close throughout her life; she also had work friends, church friends and her travel buddies; everyone had a good time when they were with Maureen.
Maureen was a wonderful lady; kind, caring and always willing to do for others. She was always surrounded by people who loved her and will forever have her memory in their hearts.
Maureen was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Sheehan III, devoted mother of Kerry Sheehan & Chuck Taylor, Beth Rooney & her husband Mickey all of Wilmington and Thomas J. Sheehan IV & his fiancé Laurie Girdharry of Hull. Loving “Nana” of Brendan Sheehan & his wife Rebecca, Liam, Colin, Caroline and Charlie Rooney, as well as her first great grandchild due in August. Cherished daughter of the late Timothy and Margaret (Scully) Murphy, dear sister of the late Rev. Timothy Murphy and Jeremiah Murphy, sister-in-law of Maryann Nolan of Hanover, Richard Sheehan of Marshfield and the late Marti Maher. Maureen is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends will gather for a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 11:30 p.m. in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA.
