RMLD Receives 2021 Certificate of Excellence in Reliability for Sixth Consecutive Year

Below is a press release from the Reading Municipal Light Department:

READING, MA — The Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) has received the APPA Certificate of Excellence in Reliability, a national recognition for significantly exceeding the average for all US electric utilities for reliable electric service. The American Public Power Association (APPA) represents more than 2,000 community owned electric utilities before the federal government to protect the interest of all those served.  APPA advocates and advises on electricity policy, technology, trends, training, and operations.  As such, APPA helps public electric utilities track power outage and restoration data through eReliability Tracker. Once per year, APPA’s Reliability Team compares submitted RMLD data with national statistics tracked by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, for all types of electric utilities.

“Once again, public power utilities have demonstrated their commitment to providing highly reliable power to their customers,” said Alex Hoffman, APPA’s Vice President of Technical and Operations Services. “We commend these utilities for their hard work when it comes to keeping the lights on in their communities.”

“The RMLD, its staff, and its governing boards are proud to receive this recognition. It is truly a reflection of RMLD’s versatility and continuous commitment to provide the best public service of reliable electricity to all of its customers in the towns of Reading, North Reading, Wilmington and Lynnfield Center,” said Coleen O’Brien, General Manager at RMLD.

RMLD is in the top 25% of utilities in the nation that substantially exceed the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) when compared with national reliability data collected by the Federal Energy Information Administration (EIA). This is the sixth consecutive year the RMLD has earned a Certificate of Excellence in Reliability.
