WILMINGTON, MA — Sharon M. Garber, age 79, a resident of AdviniaCare Wilmington (formerly Woodbriar) for the past five years, passed away on April 9, 2022.
Sharon was born on November 28, 1942, in Boston, MA. Sharon was the daughter of the late Nathan Garber and Beulah (Himelfarb) Lookner. Sharon grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School. Following high school, Sharon earned a Bachelor’s degree and went on to earn two Masters’ degrees.
Sharon worked as a medical nurse for many years. Sharon also spent several years working as a geriatric psychiatric nurse at New England Medical Center in Boston. She had such a love for the elderly that she finished her nursing career working in several nursing homes around New England. Sharon’s warm and caring personality was essential to the care of her patients. She was dedicated to her profession and loved the many people she cared for over the years.
Sharon spent fifteen years living in Florida where she thrived in the sunshine, continued working as a nurse and continued to pursue her passion for collecting and selling antiques. Sharon returned to Massachusetts in 2008 to live closer to her daughters. Sharon could be found most weekends at antique shops around New England.
Sharon was a devoted mother and her daughters remember her as passionate about democracy and a proponent of equality for women and people of color. Sharon will be remembered for her intelligence and compassion.
Sharon is survived by her daughter, Barbra Black Tesconi and her husband David Tesconi of Nashua, NH, and her daughter, Bonni Black and her wife Roberta Tiberio of Natick, MA. Sharon is also survived by her brother, Richard Garber of California.
A Celebration of Life for Sharon will be held at the Pacific Grove Restaurant, 211 Lowell Street, (Rte. 129), Wilmington on Sunday, April 24th from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Memorial donations in Sharon’s name may be made to Alzheimer’s treatment or research: Alzheimer’s Association | Donate to Fight Alzheimer’s Disease.
