Below is a press release from the Shriners Circus:
WILMINGTON, MA — Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, the Shriners Circus is back with an all-new show. Presented by the Aleppo Shriners at the Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington, the circus will be held for the first time since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wilmington resident Roger Metcalfe will also be back as the circus chairman for the 17th year. Metcalfe and his wife, Marjorie are long-time residents of Wilmington, having raised their two sons and their daughter in town.
“The greatest show to hit the Shriners Auditorium in 2022 will be a fun-filled extravaganza for young and old,” said Roger Metcalfe. “This is an all-new circus featuring some of the best performers and entertainers in the country.”
Metcalfe should know, he has been a Shriner for 47 years and has seen many circuses over the years.
This is a major undertaking,” remarked Metcalfe. “I need 99 volunteers for each circus performance in order to have it run smoothly. This includes parking attendants, ticket sellers and collectors, ushers, kitchen staff to prep food, as well as people to make popcorn and fried dough and many other jobs. We have some volunteers that have been involved as long as I have, and some even longer. And you don’t have to be a Shriner to volunteer.”
The Shriners Circus will offer twelve performances during school vacation week from Wednesday, April 20 – Sunday, April 24, 2022.
Highlights of the 2022 Shriners Circus include: aerialists, dancers, acrobats, performers flying through the air, death defying stuntmen riding four motorcycles at the same time in the Globe of Death, and a man being shot out of a cannon. Of course, the famous Aleppo Clowns will spread laughter and silliness throughout the arena. No exotic animals will be performing at the circus.
According to Metcalfe, the circus is for everyone.
“Parents and grandparents bring their children and grandchildren. We see high school and college students and we see generations of families,” he says. “We want to give people a value when they come to the circus and make it a pleasant time.”
