Wilmington Teens Hold Successful “Birthday Cake Drive” For Families In Need

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington teens Bella Melaragni, Gianna Melaragni, and Lauryn Parr wanted to do something special for children in need, so they created a “Birthday Cake Drive.”

When women and children are forced to relocate to shelters, one of the events that often fall by the wayside is the celebration of a child’s birthday.

The teens had a conversation with a well-known angel to Wilmington — Paula Borges-Stalker — who was overjoyed with their idea.

Donations came pouring in from students and staff at Wilmington High School and the Shawsheen Tech, as well as from residents of Wilmington.

All told, the three teens collected over 300 boxes of cake mix, 200 tubs of frosting, candles, decorations, activities and presents for all ages.

These donations were brought to:

  • The Finex House
  • The Emmaus House
  • The House Of Hope
  • Lowell Families & Babies

Hundreds of children and families will and have benefited from these thoughtful donations.

“It was honestly amazing to see so many people donate. I never thought we would have this much to give the shelters. My sister & I are thinking of what we can do next,” said Gianna Melaragni.

“When anyone really thinks of birthday parties,  you always think of kids. Knowing that all this for them is really amazing,” added Bella Melaragni.

“It was a cool idea to be part of, the children will be psyched! It felt good to help those who don’t get to celebrate their birthdays with cake or even celebrate at all,” noted Lauryn Parr.
